A 3-4 km trail on Gunnarsören island, reached by your own boat or water taxi. A jetty, a lean-to for grilling and the remains of a 1940-41 gun battery.
Gunnarsören (Gunnarsörarna) lies about 5 km west of Kapellhamnen and can only be reached by water, by your own boat or a water taxi. The island's nature trail is about 3-4 km long. It was restored and waymarked in 2021, when the jetty and footbridge were also built.
Good to know
- By boat: The water at the jetty is deep enough for a small sailing boat. By canoe or kayak you can land on the shallow beach in front of the lean-to.
- At the lean-to you can grill and make coffee.
- Terrain: The island is large and rough in places. Bring a map, rubber boots, a compass, a phone and some food.
War history
During the Soviet lease of Hanko in 1940-41, an anti-aircraft battery was stationed on the island. Emplacements for four 76 mm guns stood on the island's highest rock, and parts of the defences were built from stones gathered on the shore.
